Nagging Story

So the assignment was to write a poem which is a list of instructions using the same 3-word phrase for each point. So i used my mom's nagging which eventually evolves into care. And the list has to eventually tell a story about their life by illustrating their daily life and characterizing the speaker and who he or she is speaking to

Motherly Love

You should always floss your teeth everyday. Not just between your teeth. But between the gums. You should always come back with an A. I don’t care if everyone else got a C too. You should always shower before 7pm. If you don’t, you are an eyesore. You should always help your brother with his homework. You should always eat in the kitchen. I don’t want stains and ants on my carpet. You should always write using your 2nd finger. Never use your second and third finger at the same time. It’s unprofessional. You should always drink milk every morning and night. You need to grow. I will not let you drive till you grow another 3 inches. You should always wash your feet before coming into the house after wearing flip flops. You are making black footprints everywhere and I am not the one who is going to scrub the carpet. You should always keep your backpack on the floor. When you put it on the bed like that, you will sleep on dirt. You should always walk with your toes pointing forwards. You are not a duck. You should always cross your legs while sitting. You are not a boy. You should stay single till you go to college. And then, it can only be a Chinese man. UGH! OK MOTHER! You should always save your money. Don’t spend it on things you don’t need when shopping. You should always buy comfortable shoes. I don’t care if it has a bow or if it’s shiny. You should always sleep before 10pm. You are a growing girl. You need 10 hours. You should always get to school on time. It is not my fault that your alarm clock didn’t ring this morning. It’s your responsibility. You should always agree with your parents. It is respect.. You should always keep your room clean and organized. You should always call me before going out with your friends. You should always stand outside of your friend’s house, mall, movie theater, etcetera when I come to pick you up so I do not spend 20 minutes looking and waiting for you. You should always do something with your life instead of being a couch potato. You should always help me instead of chatting with your friends. You should always put a pillow between you and your laptop. I don’t want mutated grandchildren. You should always play with your little brother. You should always keep track of the time. You should always plan ahead. Try a using schedule. You should always wash off your makeup before showering. It will smudge and you will look like a raccoon. You should always cook the meat before the vegetables. You should always transfer the leftovers into a smaller container and put saran wrap over it before putting it into the fridge. You should always cover your food with a paper towel before microwaving it. Don’t stand in front of the microwave. Radiation. You should always be polite towards everyone. You should always greet everyone by their name when going to a party. You should always bow when receiving a red envelope. Yes mommy. You should always listen to your music softly. You will get deaf from loud music blaring into your ears through those headphones. You will regret it when you get older. You should always walk upright. You will have back problems when you get older. You should always drink green tea for it has more antioxidants than blueberries, more calcium than milk, cancer prevention, etc. I don’t want you to get health problems like me. You should always wash your face everyday using this special face wash. Then wipe off the soap and dead skin that clogs your pores with these cotton cloths. Rinse. Then apply this expensive lotion. I don’t want you to mess up your pretty face. Thank you mommy.
